The title “Créme De La Créme heightened expectations and by close careful perspective from astute collectors it was achieved. In the large diverse offering underscored by the quality from the previous caretakers made for a satisfying success.

Alabamas appeal drew attentive clamors led by the Matthews face jug once owned by collector extraordinaire John Gordon. Georgia’s Crawford County and its spectacular glazes opened up several diverse bidders attention and branched into new collections, interesting! The Meaders family members certainly galloped away with strong results. As the Barrow County face jug lot 060 went along so did research to discover a previous example offered many years ago by the Society thrust this pieces’s importance. The Gordy family excelled with the D. X. face vessel being instrumental in leading the charge. Even the Japanese circa 1600-1800 alkaline opened the eyes of ash glaze collectors with it’s historical pre-American glaze. Important Shuf Hilton face pitcher rallied well in its outing. George Ohr’s mud baby carried along pleasantly.

North Carolina western areas were steadfast with the Buncombe County Browns face jug. As Catawba Valley’s decorated Jacob Weaver redware plate soared. The historical monument by Daniel Seagle/JCM specifically commemorating an election in 1837 roared to a highly respectable showing and has a bright outlook for its future! The areas alkaline glaze offered tremendous icons even the scarce signatures carried along. Then of course the Burlon B. Craig 1970 era stars kept his one of a kinds cascading with astute driven buyers. The Piedmont had explosive redware pieces led by the rare pipe mold from the early 18th century Randolph County Dicks family provenance. Of course the salt glaze signatures held their ground with several leads as rare Craven Company, E. S. Craven, and Brower captured the stage.

From the late Senger and McLaughlin North Carolina offerings came stellar early 20th century art pottery jewels sparkling with their color glazes and forms. The Busbees 1930s Jugtown Pottery Chinese Blue Persian dynasty influenced jar set the highest price for any North Carolina art pottery example and matched realms of Newcomb College and George Ohr range. The names of Owens, Coles, Teague, Cravens, and Masten was highly sought.

The South Carolina Edgefield had a strong outing with slave made and decorated forms that brought a strong audience. The rare Rhodes decorated floral-numeral motif was watched sensationally. Likewise the Rich Williams scarce signed jug lived up well to it’s potential. Tennessee stood tall with the T. B. Love rarity, the George Dunn decorated example, all other pieces was well received. The Societys ability to offer the adorned master maker of long rifles is now a staple in with rare pottery items offered. Folk Art carvings and walking sticks as well other whimsey’s are a big draw to collectors. What a sale and what a catalog!
